Expanding the Frame: Making Alternative Digital Prints with inkAID Transfer Film, Transfierez, and inkAID Receptive Coatings on a Variety of Surfaces

Would you like to add new options to your repertoire and explore new ways of working and thinking about images on a page? This unique, hands-on workshop is designed for artists and imagemakers eager to expand their creative repertoire and explore alternative printmaking techniques. We’ll create one-of-a-kind prints on diverse substrates such as paper, textiles, glass, metal, wood, and more.

Through a playful, exploratory process, you’ll work with digital images, hand-drawn marks, illustrations, mono-printing, and hand coloring. Patti will demonstrate techniques for layering, transferring, and combining images — both new and existing — onto various surfaces.

What You’ll Learn

  • How to make image transfers using inkAID Transfer Film

  • How to coat and print (on a pigment printer) to a variety of surfaces with inkAID Receptive Coatings

  • Creative techniques to combine digital imagery with analog processes like mono-printing, trace mono-prints etc..

  • Mono-prints, trace mono – prints

  • Mark making with inks, R&F drawing sticks, colored pencils,, charcoal, oil pastels etc …

  • How to incorporate transfers into encaustic work (wax layers)

  • Methods for building complex, layered compositions

  • Finishing techniques for a professional presentation

Bonus: Pre-Workshop ZOOM Class

Before the in-person workshop, you'll participate in a Zoom session that covers:

  • Preparing your images for transfer

  • Combining drawings, textures, and digital photos

  • Planning mixed-media compositions

  • Inspiring examples from other artists

  • Digital-to-analog process insights

  • The art of play, experimentation, and embracing Wabi-Sabi

  • Making your own film transfers vs. using a service
